Drawing - Beginners to Intermediate

About Jose:

Jose is fluent in many mediums including oils, watercolours, acrylic, gouache and pastels. Jose also practices photography. Technology and computers are part of his interests with digital art adding an extra dimension and form of expression to his work. Jose believes ‘the subject matter’ will always determine the choice of medium. Jose does not have a singular genre of preference in his work which may include landscapes, seascapes, portraiture, abstracts, people or just anything that may excite his senses. Jose approaches all art genres with the same fresh feeling of awe. His art is found in private collections in Australia, USA, Chile and India.

 

Class outcomes:

This class will introduce students to basic drawing techniques.

About Leeka:

A graduate of the National Art School and Archibald finalist, Leeka has tutored students for over 25 years and regularly runs workshops in both country and city areas. Leeka specialises in creative and tricky techniques using aids to achieve various effects.

 

Class outcomes:

An introduction to basic watercolour techniques including drawing, tone and colour, as well as implementing specialty techniques such as washes and wet into wet. Students will learn how to best utilise the medium, which can be especially useful to oil and acrylic artists wanting to explore watercolours.

About Sylvia:

Xiu Luo Sun (Sylvia) is a Chinese Australian artist with over 30 years experience in teaching, painting and drawing. After graduating from Qingdao University, China in 1985 and majoring in textiles and fashion design, she became an art and design lecturer. In China, Sylvia participated in numerous painting exhibitions and winning awards in multiple stage costume and fashion design competitions. In Australia she has been exploring still life paintings and experimenting with colour and pattern in oils, acrylic and pastels and turning every-day items such as flowers, vases, fruits and tea sets into extraordinary expressions of beauty and depth. She sees still life as an inanimate amalgamation of composition, decoration, rigor and flexibility. Xiu Luo’s paintings and artworks have been exhibited and published on many occasions overseas and in Australia, with several pieces currently in the possession of private collectors.

 

Class outcomes:

This class will show students the drawing steps necessary for the construction of a drawing including light and shade, perspective and composition. Classes will include subjects such as still life and flowers, how to draw animals and employ creativity in your work.

About Wendy:

Wendy is a member of Drummoyne and Lane Cove Art Societies and an exhibiting member of the Royal Art Society of NSW where she achieved a diploma in drawing and painting. Wendy has achieved many awards in various exhibitions for her portraits, and has completed many commissions.

 

Class outcomes:

This class will show students how to capture a good likeness of a subject by applying the rules of proportion, correct placement of facial features and familiarising themselves with the shape and structure of the head. Students are encouraged to bring a photo/s or a printed image of a person showing good shadow and highlights that they can recreate on paper or canvas. There will also be some supplied reference material. Wendy will show how to apply a variation of tone to create dimension and composition, revealing a good likeness and personality of the subject.

About Xavier:

Xavier, a French national, studied at the École Duperré in Paris before graduating in 1981 with a Degree in Illustration and the Applied Arts. Xavier worked as an illustrator for major French magazines, publications and advertising agencies before moving to Sydney in 1994. Xavier has been part of several group exhibitions with his detailed and expressive illustrations’ and paintings and has had two solo shows at the ArtHouse Hotel. Xavier is five times winner of the Bald Archy prize and winner of 17 awards in various exhibitions and competitions in the past 4 years.

 

Class outcomes:

An emphasis will be on expression of form, volume and structure in a still life set up. Classes will include sessions in portrait drawing and rendering the face in a realistic manner with proportions and drapery a consideration.
